This week marks preparations for my most cherished and favored holidays that we have the privilege to celebrate in this great country of ours. Independence Day, or the 4th of July. I LOVE this day! More than Carrie Bradshaw loves her Manolo Blahnik's or Clairie loves her luggage. I wasn't always like that. It wasn't 'til I moved to my little town 6 years ago, that I began to really understand what it meant to truly celebrate. This town is a phenomenal little town. This town turns OUT for EVERYTHING. The 4th is no exception. We begin with a total town turnout for the Veteran's Association's Memorial Service at the Veteran's Memorial Park at 10am. Then we fiddle around town til 1pm when the parade starts, followed by a corn boilin' and watermelon cuttin' at the park along with entertainment and a plethora of other activities and the biggest, fabulous, most SPECTACULAR fireworks extravaganza in the entire West Georgia area! The activities are wonderful! But the best part, is the sense of belonging. For one day, everybody out here puts differences aside, ignores idiosyncrasies, and the community spirit is THERE!, regardless of what name you have or what part of town you live in. It's GREAT! Strangers don't exist. We're all neighbors. This is the stuff other towns and cities envy, and I love it.
I think of those who are fighting for us daily to preserve our freedom, and I am both humbled and proud. Without them, we would have nothing.
Happy Independence Day
